Title: West of the Mountains: James Sinclair and the Hudson’s Bay Company
Description: A biography of an early explorer of the Rocky Mountain area. "West of the Mountains" has a special implication relative to the period of this narrative. It was a colloquialism in general use throughout Rupert's Land and in the Oregon a century ago and was employed to covey the idea of banishment from one part of the territory of the Hudson's Bay Company jurisdiction to another. James Sinclair's banishment led to his most significant explorations and ultimately to his death at the hands of Indians on the Columbia River.
